Central Credit Register Information
The Central Credit Register is a new secure database of personal and credit information for loans of €500 or more. It has been set up under the Credit Reporting Act 2013 and will be operated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As you are aware we currently operate the Irish Credit Bureau (ICB) and this new Register will eventually replace this system.
By December 2017, RTÉ Credit Union, along with other lenders like Banks and Firms that have acquired loan books from Irish financial institutions must transfer personal and credit information on a monthly basis to the Central Credit Register for qualifying credit agreements (loans) from June 2017 onwards.
Qualifying credit agreements covers all loans including credit cards, mortgages, overdrafts and personal loans. The collection of credit and personal data from lenders will be implemented on a phased basis, with Phase 1 focusing on data collection for consumer lending and Phase 2 focusing on lending to businesses, including clubs and associations.
